IP desk phones – auto-provisioning overview

Auto-provisioning configures an IP desk phone from the VoIP portal: the phone downloads its account, line keys, phonebook and firmware from our provisioning server, and any change you make in the portal is applied when the phone reboots. We support Yealink, Grandstream, Fanvil, FlyingVoice, Panasonic, Polycom and Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise handsets.

Step 1 – add the phone in the portal

  1. Log in to the VoIP portal and go to Voice → Phones, then Add a new phone.
  2. Choose the manufacturer and model.
  3. Enter the phone’s MAC address (on the label on the back of the phone or the box). Add a description, and a VLAN ID only if your network needs one.
  4. Under Accounts pick the phone number or extension for each line the phone has.
  5. Program the line keys if you want them – BLF keys to monitor colleagues, speed dials, voicemail, pickup, transfer, or Mailbox Monitoring (the key flashes red when a mailbox has new messages and connects you to it when pressed).
  6. Click Add New Phone.

You will also need the provisioning server address for your phone brand – it is specific to our platform, so email [email protected] with the brand and model and we will send it (for Fanvil phones we also send the configuration-file encryption key for your account).

Step 2 – point the phone at the provisioning server

Connect the phone to your network, find its IP address in its menu (Status), open that address in a browser and log in with the phone’s admin password. Enter the provisioning address and trigger provisioning. Brand-by-brand instructions:

The phone may update its firmware first, rebooting several times – do not unplug it. After a few minutes it registers and is ready. The phone’s admin password changes to the one you set in the portal.

Monitoring a voicemail box with a BLF key

Through auto-provisioning, choose Mailbox Monitoring for the key and select the number whose mailbox to watch. If you provision manually, first open that line in the portal, choose Voice Mail from the Incoming Calls menu and tick Enable mailbox monitoring through SUBSCRIBE events; then program the BLF key with the number followed by VM (for example 09XXXXXXXVM, using the long login number for an extension).

Configuring a phone by hand instead? Use the settings in VoIP settings for your SIP phone.
