Hyperfibre’s exceptionally low latency makes it ideal for high-performance applications that rely on real-time communication – video calls, cloud software and large file transfers. It is available almost everywhere fibre was deployed in the first stage of the UFB project, which covers more than 80 percent of New Zealand.
A Hyperfibre connection does not need any new construction because it uses the fibre that is already in the street. A technician replaces your ONT (optical network terminal) with one that can handle Hyperfibre speeds – simple, and normally done in one visit.
The upgrade happens in two stages:
1. At the local exchange, the fibre company links your fibre to the Hyperfibre network.
2. A technician visits and swaps your ONT for a Hyperfibre-capable one.
