VoIP settings for your SIP phone, adapter or app

Use these settings to register any SIP device on your ASH NET phone number – an IP desk phone, a VoIP adapter (ATA), a softphone app or an IP PBX. If you have the ASH NET VoIP router (TP-Link VX230v) it arrives pre-configured, so you only need this article for extra or third-party devices.

SIP server / registrar / domainsip2.ashnet.co.nz
Outbound proxysip2.ashnet.co.nz (same as the server, if your device asks for one)
Port5060 (UDP)
Username / Auth ID / Auth usernameYour VoIP phone number exactly as shown in the VoIP portal – digits only, with the area code and no spaces (for example 09XXXXXXX)
PasswordThe SIP password we emailed you when the line was set up. Lost it? Contact us and we will reset it – we never ask for your password by email.
Display nameYour name or your phone number
CodecsG.722 (HD) first, then G.711 A-law and G.711 u-law. GSM, iLBC, G.729 and G.726 also work.
DTMFRFC 2833 (preferred) or SIP INFO – not in-band
NATLeave NAT traversal / keep-alive on. STUN is not needed. Turn SIP ALG off on your router.
Registration expiryLeave the default (or 300 seconds if the phone keeps dropping its registration behind a router)

Before you start

  • Your device must be on a working internet connection – ASH NET fibre or any other connection.
  • Only one device can register with the plain phone number. To use several phones or apps on the same number at once, turn on the shared-line feature and use the -1 to -5 login suffixes – see Simultaneous ring and shared line.
  • Most devices work with UDP on port 5060. If you need encrypted signalling (TLS) or TCP, email us and we will confirm the settings for your device.

Quick check

Once the device shows Registered, dial *55 – you should reach your voicemail box. Then make a call to a mobile and a call in to your number.

Registration shows Fault, Failed or 401? Check the username is the number with no spaces, the password is the SIP password (not your portal password) and the server is sip2.ashnet.co.nz. Then see VoIP troubleshooting.
