What Is The 111 Contact Code?
The 111 Contact Code is a Commerce Commission code that protects consumers who may not be able to contact 111 emergency services during a power failure. Landline services delivered over fibre or VoIP (including ASH NET home phone lines) do not work when the power is off, unlike a traditional copper phone line.
Who is a vulnerable consumer? A consumer of a residential landline service who is at particular risk of requiring a 111 emergency service (for example for medical, safety or disability reasons) and does not have an alternative way of contacting 111 – such as a charged mobile phone – that would work for the minimum period in a power failure.
How to get your account listed – if someone in your household relies on the landline for medical, safety or disability reasons, download and complete the application form below and send it to [email protected]. Once approved, ASH NET provides a suitable means of contacting 111 during a power failure at no cost. We will not disconnect or refuse a residential landline service because a customer is, or may become, a vulnerable consumer.
Queries or complaints – email [email protected]. You can also contact the Commerce Commission (comcom.govt.nz) or the Telecommunications Dispute Resolution scheme (tdr.org.nz) directly.
