Voicemail is switched on for every ASH NET phone number and extension by default (DDI-only numbers have no mailbox of their own). Callers are sent to voicemail when you do not answer within the diversion time (20 seconds by default), when you decline a call, or when the line is busy.
Listening to messages
Dial *55 from your handset, IP phone or app. Follow the prompts to play, save or delete messages. You can also have every message emailed to you (below).
Recording your greetings
There are two greetings: the unavailable greeting (you did not answer) and the busy greeting (you declined the call or all your lines were in use). Record one message for both if you prefer.
*58– record the unavailable greeting (press#to finish).*59– record the busy greeting (press#to finish).*50– play back your unavailable greeting to check it.
You can also upload an MP3 greeting in the VoIP portal.
Voicemail settings in the VoIP portal
- Log in to the VoIP portal, open the Voice tab and click your phone number.
- From the Incoming Calls menu choose Voice Mail.
- Options on this page:
- Disable voicemail – turn the service off (callers hear ringing until they give up, or your forwarding rules apply).
- Diversion timer – how many seconds to ring before voicemail answers (default 20).
- Access PIN – set a PIN to protect the mailbox and to allow checking messages from another phone (ask us for the remote-access number).
- Do not play a greeting – callers hear only a beep.
- Play caller ID before each message.
- Always prompt for mailbox number – handy for a receptionist who checks several mailboxes.
- Voicemail to email – enter an email address and tick the box to have each message sent as an audio file. Tick delete after emailing if you do not want messages kept in the mailbox as well.
- Transcription and SMS alerts – tick transcription to add a best-effort text version of each message to the email, and enter a mobile number to receive an SMS alert when a message is left.
- Click Save.
Every line has two call channels, so a second caller can leave a message while you are already on a call.
