Hyperfibre (2000, 4000 and 8000 Mbps) needs two things a standard connection does not: a Hyperfibre-capable fibre box (ONT) and a router with multi-gigabit ports.
The fibre box
If your address does not have a Hyperfibre ONT, we lodge an ONT upgrade with Chorus and their technician swaps it in a single visit (no new build work). Chorus does not publish a waiting time; our recent upgrades have taken about a week. If you are switching to us from another provider we usually connect you first on Home Fibre 920 so you are not without internet, then move you to Hyperfibre once the box is upgraded – your Hyperfibre contract term starts the day Hyperfibre goes live. After the swap the new ONT must be activated on our side – contact us, then power your router off for five minutes.
The router
- The router must support DHCP with VLAN 10 like any ASH NET connection.
- To get more than about 1 Gbps the router’s WAN port must be 2.5 Gbps or faster, and each wired device needs a 2.5 or 10 Gbps Ethernet port to see the full speed. Wi-Fi 6E/7 devices can exceed 1 Gbps close to the router.
- We supply the Mercusys Halo H47BE Wi-Fi 7 mesh router (2.5 Gbps ports) for Hyperfibre 2000 at $299, and a higher-spec mesh router for Hyperfibre 4000 and 8000 at $460 – see the shop.
A standard gigabit router still works on a Hyperfibre plan – you will simply be limited to about 940 Mbps until you upgrade it.
Current Hyperfibre prices are on our Hyperfibre page. Router settings do not change between Home Fibre and Hyperfibre.
