“Telephone” app for Mac – set-up

Telephone is a basic but reliable SIP softphone for macOS, available free from the Mac App Store. It is a good choice if you only need to make and take calls from your Mac.

1. Install Telephone from the Mac App Store and open it.
2. Fill in the account details:

   Full name	Your name
   Domain	sip2.ashnet.co.nz
   User name	Your phone number, digits only (e.g. 09XXXXXXX)
   Password	Your SIP password

3. The app registers over UDP and should show your number as online. Dial *55 to test.

Optional: switch to TLS

UDP is not encrypted and some firewalls interfere with it. If we have confirmed TLS settings for your account: open Telephone → Preferences, go to Accounts, untick Enable this account, open the Network tab and set SIP Transport to TLS, then tick Enable this account again. Email [email protected] first if you are unsure whether TLS is enabled for your line.

Under Sound choose your microphone and headset; untick Call waiting in General if you want second callers to hear busy while you are on a call. During a call, type digits on your keyboard to select auto-attendant menu options.
