Installing WordPress with the one-click installer

1. Log in to cPanel and open the one-click app installer under Software.
2. Choose WordPress and click Install.
3. Choose the domain, pick https:// as the protocol (SSL is free), and leave the directory blank so WordPress installs at the root of the domain (enter blog to install at yourdomain.co.nz/blog).
4. Enter the site name, an admin username (not “admin”), a strong password and your email address.
5. Click Install. After a minute you get a link to the site and to the dashboard at yourdomain.co.nz/wp-admin.

After installing

• Set permalinks (Settings → Permalinks → Post name) and your timezone (Settings → General → Auckland).
• Install only plugins and themes you need, and keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated – outdated plugins are the main way sites get hacked. If you would rather we did this, see our website maintenance plans.
• Make sure SSL is active and the site address uses https – SSL certificates.
• Choose a PHP version WordPress supports (8.1 or newer) in cPanel → MultiPHP Manager – PHP version and settings.
