A hunt group rings a sequence of up to ten numbers or extensions, one after another, until someone answers. Use it for a small team where calls should try the receptionist first, then the office, then a mobile.
- Log in to the VoIP portal, open the Voice tab and click the number.
- From the Incoming Calls menu choose Hunt Group and tick Enable a hunt group for this number.
- Choose the time schedule during which the hunt group runs (edit or create one with [Edit]).
- Set the timeout before hunting – how many seconds the number itself rings before the hunt starts.
- Add each hunt number (a phone number or extension) with its own timeout in seconds. Up to ten steps.
- Choose what happens if nobody answers: try ringing the line as normal after the hunt, or connect to the hunt group after ringing the line and any simultaneous rings first.
- Click Save (or Undo Changes to discard).
For anything busier than a handful of calls, a call queue usually works better: callers wait in order with hold music instead of being bounced from phone to phone, and you get reports.
