Creating email accounts, forwarders and autoresponders in cPanel

Create a mailbox

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Email → Email Accounts.
  2. Click Create, choose the domain, enter the name before the @ and a strong password.
  3. Set the storage (quota) – a full mailbox bounces incoming mail, so allow plenty or choose unlimited.
  4. Click Create. Then set the mailbox up on your devices with the settings in Email settings – the Connect Devices button next to each account shows them too.

Change a password or quota

In Email Accounts click Manage next to the address. Change the password there – then update it in every app and phone that uses the mailbox, or they will lock the account with failed logins.

Forwarders

Email → Forwarders → Add Forwarder sends copies of mail for one address to another – for example sales@ to two people’s mailboxes. A forwarder can exist without a mailbox.

Autoresponders (out of office)

Email → Autoresponders → Add Autoresponder: choose the address, write the subject and message, set the start and stop dates, and save. Webmail also has a simple auto-reply under settings.

Catch-all and default address

Email → Default Address decides what happens to mail sent to addresses that do not exist at your domain. Leave it set to discard unless you specifically want a catch-all – catch-alls attract spam.
